18 בדצמבר 2025 – עשרים וארבעה ארגונים ברחבי העולם קוראים היום לסווג את הביטוי “גבריות רעילה” (Toxic Masculinity) כדיבור שטנה. הארגונים רואים ב"גבריות רעילה" כינוי גנאי שהוא לא מדויק, פוגעני ומזיק. הקבוצות קוראות לכלי תקשורת מודפסים, רשתות חברתיות ולפרסומים להפסיק את השימוש בביטוי הפוגעני הזה.

עמותת אבות למען צדק בישראל היא אחת מ-24 הארגונים החתומים על ההצהרה ההיסטורית הזו.

24 הארגונים ממוקמים בתשע מדינות באוסטרליה, אירופה, המזרח התיכון וצפון אמריקה – ראו רשימה בהמשך.

הרקע

עד שנות ה-80, גבריות נתפסה כתכונה חיובית: “פעילות”, “דומיננטיות” ו"עצמאות". אך עם הזמן, פעילי מגדר החלו לייחס למושג מגוון תכונות שליליות כמו “שנאת נשים” ו"הומופוביה" – תכונות שמערבבות מאפיינים נורמטיביים נפוצים עם תכונות סוטות.

בשנת 2005, הפסיכולוג טרי קופרס הוציא גינוי גורף של “גבריות רעילה”, שאותה אפיין כ"קבוצת תכונות גבריות רגרסיביות חברתית המשרתות שליטה, פחיתה של נשים, הומופוביה ואלימות פרועה".

בתגובה, הפסיכולוג הבריטי ג’ון בארי ערך סקר כדי לברר כיצד אנשים רואים את המונח “גבריות רעילה”. רוב גדול של גברים ונשים כאחד ראו בביטוי כעלבון:

• גברים: 88%
• נשים: 85%

סקר המשך שנערך בקרב למעלה מ-4,000 גברים בבריטניה ובגרמניה מצא שהחשיבה שגבריות היא “רעה עבורך” קשורה באופן משמעותי לרווחה נפשית גרועה יותר.

האו"ם מתעלם מהראיות

בהתעלמות מתובנות אלה, האומות המאוחדות קפצה על העגלה האידיאולוגית והוציאה מסמך הנחיה ב-2023 בשם “אחריות גברים לשוויון מגדרי”. הדוח של האו"ם מגנה באופן לא רציונלי את “הגבריות הרעילה” כ"מניע מרכזי של אלימות כלפי נשים ובנות בכל תחומי החיים".

מסמך האו"ם לא מצטט אפילו מחקר מדעי אחד לתמיכה במסקנה המופרכת הזו. למעשה, מדענים תיעדו שוב ושוב את העובדה שאלימות במשפחה פוגעת במספרים שווים של גברים ונשים ברחבי העולם.

המקבילה הנשית, “נשיות רעילה”, נתפסת באופן נרחב כבלתי מקובלת. באופן דומה, מספר גדל והולך של קבוצות קראו לראות את הביטוי “גבריות רעילה” כשנאה ומזיק:

Hate Speech: 24 Groups Call for Ban on ‘Toxic Masculinity’

PRESS RELEASE

December 18, 2025 – Twenty-four organizations around the world are today calling for classification of the phrase, “toxic masculinity,” as hate speech. The organizations consider “toxic masculinity” to be a slur that is inaccurate, hurtful, and harmful. The groups are calling for print media, social media, and publications to eliminate use of this offensive phrase.

Fathers for Justice (Israel) is one of the 24 organizations signing this historic declaration.

The 24 organizations are located in nine countries in Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America – see listing, below.

Background

Until the 1980s, masculinity was seen as a positive attribute: “active,” “dominant,” and “self-contained.” But over time, gender activists began to assign a variety of negative qualities to the ideal, such as “misogyny” and “homophobia” – attributes that conflate common normative characteristic with deviant traits.

Then in 2005, psychologist Terry Kupers issued a sweeping condemnation of “toxic masculinity,” which he characterized as the “constellation of socially regressive male traits that serve to foster domination, the devaluation of women, homophobia, and wanton violence.”

In response, British psychologist John Barry conducted a survey to ascertain how persons viewed the term, “toxic masculinity.” Large majorities of both men and women saw the phrase as insulting:

• Men: 88%
• Women: 85%

A follow-up survey of over 4,000 men in the UK and Germany found that thinking masculinity is “bad for you” is significantly related to a person’s worse mental well-being.

The UN Ignores the Evidence

Ignoring these insights, the United Nations jumped on the ideological bandwagon, issuing a guidance document in 2023, Men’s Accountability for Gender Equality. The UN report irrationally condemns “toxic masculinity” as a “key driver of violence against women and girls in all spheres of life.”

The United Nations document does not cite a single scientific study to support this far-fetched conclusion. Indeed, scientists have repeatedly documented the fact that domestic violence affects equal numbers of men and women around the world.

The female counterpart, “toxic femininity” is widely seen as unacceptable. Likewise, growing numbers of groups have called for viewing the phrase, “toxic masculinity” as hateful and harmful:
